Public Transportation in Casablanca [2024 Edition]

Casablanca is a city in Morocco known for its important spot near the Atlantic Sea. It’s like the economic center of Morocco, similar to how New York City is for the USA. Casablanca is famous for its clubs, malls, and various activities. Getting around Casablanca is easy with various public transportation options options like taxis, trams, shuttles, and buses, making your travel smooth and enjoyable.

When you visit Casablanca, you’ll likely want to explore the best shopping spots and discover the city. However, it’s essential to first get an idea of the local transportation options for a seamless experience

How to Get Around in Casablanca?

Red Taxis

The Red Taxi stands out as one of the diverse public transportation options in Casablanca. Also called The ‘petit taxis’, it will take you around the city, and you’ll come across them at every street corner.

It takes only three people in it, but if you’re alone or with just one other person, the Red Taxi can be exclusively for you without picking up additional customers. Pay attention to the meter, which calculates the fare you need to pay.

Additionally, the minimum fare for a trip with second-class taxis (small taxis), which is 4 MAD, is equivalent to around 0.60$.

For instance, if the meter shows 4 MAD, you would need to pay 7,5 MAD, which is approximately 0,10$.

If the meter displays an amount higher than 7.5 MAD, you will pay the fare indicated on the meter.

Sometimes, if they mention that the meter isn’t working, it’s advisable to avoid taking that taxi.

Note: Petit taxis are authorized to operate only within the city limits, unlike the larger white taxis, which can travel outside the city!

White Taxis

For navigating Casablanca or its surroundings, you can opt for the large white taxi. These taxis accommodate up to six passengers, offering a cost-effective means of transportation.

The average fare typically falls between 5 MAD (0.50$) and 13 MAD (1.30$) for trips within Casablanca. If you’re heading outside Casablanca, the fare may extend to 50 MAD (5$).

Note: Please be aware that red and white taxis are exclusive to Casablanca; outside the city, the taxi colors vary.

The tramway

Casablanca’s tram system is awesome – it has many stops, and it’s fast and affordable. You can travel almost anywhere in the city for less than a dollar!

It connects most parts of Casablanca, and for just 0.80$, you can easily get around. Check the tram website for more info. If you plan to use it often, you can get a monthly subscription for 230 Dhs, plus an extra 15 Dhs for the card.

The tram usually works well, although sometimes drivers park or wait on the tracks. Still, it’s a fantastic option for a safe and convenient journey.

Buses

Buses are abundant in Casablanca, making public transportation more convenient for you. However, they can get crowded, and sometimes they run late, especially in the evening from 6 pm onwards.

Bus stations are available, and you can find additional information on schedules and routes on the Casabus website.

Indrive

Ride services are also available in Casablanca such as Indrive. Just download the app, pick your destination, set the price, and wait for a driver to accept.

In my personal experience, Indrive is twice as costly as a red taxi, and during rush hours, it triples in price.

It’s essential to check the license plate to make sure it matches the one on the Indrive app.
