You can’t visit Casablanca without stopping by the Hassan II Mosque. It’s one of the few mosques in the world open to non-Muslims and an absolute must-see.
Can you imagine, the Hassan II Mosque was built a long time ago, yet it still stands as one of the most magnificent landmarks in Morocco. It’s the seventh-largest mosque in the world, with a fantastic traditional hammam that you shouldn’t miss if you’re in Casablanca.
Non-Muslims can only visit the Hassan II Mosque during scheduled visiting hours, with a paid ticket that includes a guided tour. Unlike the medina in Marrakech, Casablanca’s medina is a space where locals mingle and local businesses thrive. It’s the perfect place to pick up a souvenir, with plenty of bazaars offering everything from crafts to spices. Just be careful with the prices, as some vendors tend to raise them a bit, so it’s always good to haggle a little!
4. Rick’s Café: A Touch of Cinema
Are you a fan of the classic Hollywood film Casablanca? Rick’s Café is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Casablanca. The posters, the building, the decor, the drinks—everything is just like in the movie! It feels like being part of the film, even though it was actually filmed entirely in the United States since in 1941, filming in Morocco wasn’t possible. The menu is very international, nothing traditional, but it fits with the theme of the fictional place, so it works. It’s a bit pricey for Morocco, but considering the type of crowd it attracts, it makes sense. A beautiful spot, and they even have jazz concerts in the evening!
5. The Habous Quarter: Authentic Charm
This area is perfect for those who just want to relax, take an evening stroll, shop for souvenirs, or explore local items. There are many fruit and nut vendors, and it’s a bit cleaner than other parts of the city. You’ll also find lots of tourists here, enjoying the traditional feel of Casablanca. It’s definitely an area I would recommend to all visitors.
There are plenty of shops where you can buy Moroccan clothing, shoes, jewelry, magnets, dishes, wooden pieces, and much more. We had a great time browsing through all the items. And once again, don’t be afraid to haggle—it’s part of the experience.
